This weekend was the beginning of the end for the Long Beach boardwalk. After being severely damages by Hurricane Sandy, it will be torn down and rebuilt. The Army Corps of Engineers and other experts are still proposing how to better protect Long Beach from another storm. Whether its a sea wall, dunes, or more jetties, Long Beach will look different this summer. No official word yet on how long it will take to construct the new boardwalk, but let's hope the majority of it is done by the summer.

So what happens to the wood from the old boardwalk? Most of it will probably end up in landfills, but aspiring artists like Ray (below) are taking pieces of it home to make furniture and other sculptures to keep the memories alive.
