One of the newest boardshorts in the game is CIRE. Started in 2004 in a garage in Manhattan Beach, they focus on making quality shorts, while maintaining responsible manufacturing and distribution processes. CIRE is growing organically by making a great product and the hype is spreading throughout the surf and wakeboard community. They are also known for being the longest length boardshorts, so if you think most boardshorts fit like a 1970's bathing suit, then you should check out CIRE.
CIRE 4-Way Stretch Jams

CIRE may be a smaller brand, but they should not be overlooked. My friend Deez, who looks like he's more at home spiking volleyballs than laying down lines on dawn patrol, turned me on to this brand. He's a tall guy and only surfs in CIRE shorts because they are longer than most shorts, they have a 12" inseam. They are lightweight, made with a ripstop pattern for durability, and their signature Boxxed Dobby texture reduces contact area on your skin to really speed up drying. Although not as stretchy as some other brands, they still perform really well and don't restrict movement. The pocket on these is the best in the biz, it's placed like a normal pocket on the hip and it can easily fit your wallet, keys, phone and more. The length of the shorts were great for stand up paddling because they didn't ride up on me when I was kneeling, and they covered the back of my knees so they didn't get sunburned when I was standing. They are also a bargain at only $54! (CIRE's other Recession and Core boardshorts are less expensive, but still maintain the quality). The Jams are the best bang for the buck shorts I have worn. I also like the stripes pattern, it reminds me of a retro 60's style. If you like roomier, longer shorts at a great price, these are for you.
Pros: Long length, dry fast, deep pocket (but don't need deep pockets to buy them), price, great customer service
Cons: Smaller company so they may be hard to find in stores, check cirewear.com to get a pair
