That's right our, #3 prediction for the new year has already come true! John John Florence will be riding for Hurley. Looks like Nike (which owns Hurley) is using the strategy of, if you can't beat them, buy them. Hurley now has 9 riders on the ASP Tour, 5 men and 3 women. Best of luck Mr. Florence. Full release can be seen here on Hurley's site.

This weekend was the beginning of the end for the Long Beach boardwalk. After being severely damages by Hurricane Sandy, it will be torn down and rebuilt. The Army Corps of Engineers and other experts are still proposing how to better protect Long Beach from another storm. Whether its a sea wall, dunes, or more jetties, Long Beach will look different this summer. No official word yet on how long it will take to construct the new boardwalk, but let's hope the majority of it is done by the summer.

So what happens to the wood from the old boardwalk? Most of it will probably end up in landfills, but aspiring artists like Ray (below) are taking pieces of it home to make furniture and other sculptures to keep the memories alive.

Quiksilver CEO and co-founder Bob McKnight has resigned from his position but will remain as Executive Chairman. Former Disney and Nike executive, Andy Mooney, will officially become new CEO on January 11. Full press release can be found here.

So Andy, who do we need to bribe to get the Quiksilver Pro back to Long Beach??

I woke up today and the first thing I saw was, 'Happy New Year from Alana Blanchard'. Ok, so did 61,000 of her twitter followers. If the above picture of Alana doesn't cure your hangover then nothing will. So get out of bed, get to the gym, jump in the surf, just do something and start the year off right.
